P (PARK) - parking stall
For safety reasons, the shift lever must be placed in gear position P before leaving the vehicle, especially during maintenance, especially when the engine is running.
In the gear position P, the automatic transmission is in neutral, the mechanical lever will lock the output shaft to prevent the phenomenon of rolling, of course, only when the vehicle is completely stopped, the shift lever can be placed in the gear position P .
The shift lever is controlled by an electromagnet-controlled locking device. Therefore, the shift lever can be moved out of the gear position P only by applying the foot brake and pressing the shift lever side button to ensure safety. Many cars are also equipped with an interlock, and only the shift lever is engaged in the gear P to pull the car key out.
The parking position P cannot completely replace the hand brake. If the parking is stopped for a long time or the road is stopped, the hand brake must be used. Otherwise, the automatic transmission locking mechanism is liable to cause damage.
R (REVERSE) - reverse gear
Only after the vehicle has completely stopped can the gear R be engaged or withdrawn, otherwise the early wear of the automatic transmission will be caused.
N (Neutral) - Neutral
If it is necessary to push or tow the vehicle, the gear position N must be selected. When the vehicle is towed, the traction speed should not exceed 50km/h, and the traction distance should not exceed 50km. Otherwise, the planetary gear mechanism of the automatic transmission will be damaged.
When the vehicle is stationary and the ignition switch is on, the brake pedal must be depressed and the shift lever side button pressed to release the gear N. During the running of the vehicle, the speed of the vehicle is >5km/h. Simply press the side button of the shift lever to remove or replace the gear N.
D (DRIVE) - driving gear
Only when the brake pedal is depressed and the button on the side of the shift lever is pressed, the shift lever can be removed from the gear position P or N and shifted into the driving position. Gear D is the most commonly used gear. In gear D, the automatic gearbox first selects a gear to start the vehicle, and then gradually rises to the first, third and fourth gears at the appropriate time according to the throttle opening and the speed. . Similarly, when the vehicle is decelerating, the automatic transmission will automatically downshift from the corresponding gear.
3—slope file
If gear 3 is selected, only the gearbox can be lifted up to 3 gears during driving. If the gear is selected for the slope, the automatic gearbox will automatically shift gears in the 3, 2 and 3 gear positions. When using the gear on the downhill section, you can use the braking effect of the engine.
2—long slope
If gear 2 is selected, only the gearbox can be lifted up to 2 gears during driving. This gear is very useful when driving along long curved roads with multiple curves. Otherwise, the automatic gearbox may change gears frequently, downhill. When this gear is used, the engine brake can be utilized.
1—steep slope
With gear 1 selected, the vehicle will always drive in 1st gear, and the gearbox will not be lifted into other gears, thus maximizing the braking force of the engine. Therefore, this gear can be used when going downhill. Gear 1 can only be selected when the vehicle speed is below 30km/h.
Forced low-speed switch The automatic gearbox is equipped with a forced low-speed switch. The sudden acceleration must be throttled to the bottom to enable the forced low-speed switch to engage and achieve rapid acceleration. At this time, according to the road condition and engine speed, the automatic gearbox will lower one gear to adapt. The need for rapid acceleration, or the engine does not upshift before reaching a higher speed.

Keep in mind that if the selector lever is still in the travelable position while the engine is at idle, the power output from the engine to the drive wheels is not interrupted. Therefore, the foot brake must be applied to prevent the vehicle from running. Since the 01M automatic transmission hydraulic pump is driven by one-way driving of the engine power output, the Jetta City Pioneer cannot be towed.
When the automatic gearbox electronic control system fails, the automatic gearbox is in emergency condition. At this time, the automatic gearbox has only three gear positions R, 3 and l.
